Strange but true… research says that on an average Lipstick contains 33 different chemicals, Nail Polish contains 31 different chemicals, Shampoo contains about 15 and so on... the list goes on. All together on average there are 515 different chemicals in a daily make up kit. There cannot be a better reason to kiss such a beautiful face which uses make up everyday.
Consumers are not aware of these chemicals present in make up products. A large segment of make up users is illiterate, for them the sole aim is to look beautiful. In such a situation they do not know how harmful this stuff is in the long run. In our country it is not mandatory to list out the ingredients of the cosmetics on the packaging, but soon it will become compulsory for manufacturers to print it on their cartons about the composition of the beauty product and the chemicals they contain. However they do not have to broadcast it in their advertisements as it is nothing but negative publicity. Negative publicity leads to loss in the number of clients, hence loss in business which no company wants. Hence they avoid speaking about it arguing that the cartons of their products have all the required information.
There are a large number of natural and organic cosmetics which are also in use. However these do not provide the same amount of shine that a inorganic cosmetic can provide, for e.g.: Coconut oil cannot give the same amount of shine that shoe polish does!!
I once read that body lotions contain something known as Polyethylene glycol, incidentally this is also found on oven cleaners. If this is the case why don't customers opt for oven cleaners to use as body lotions, they are definitely cheaper compared to body lotions and they come in bigger packs. The issue is not about consumers using floor cleaners or shoe polish on their own body, but the companies selling products with such dangerous components.
Polymethyl methacrylate commonly known as Plexiglas is a popular and widely used thermoplastic. This is also a carcinogen and it is a component of lipstick. That should give a sick stomach to all those kissers I guess!
Some of the problems caused by these chemicals range from eye irritation and possible eye damage, allergies, kidney damage, hormonal disruption, fertility issues, and even immune system disruptions. This is not the end of the list, these are a few problems to start with.
With the greater segment of the country's youth becoming beauty conscious, more and more people have taken to using cosmetics. The consumer base for cosmetic users is increasing steadfast. Some studies say that even the so called natural products are not 100% safe. It is only awareness on the consumer's part that can protect him.
I wouldn't ask people to shun or stop using cosmetics altogether, as it is a very sensitive issue and I can be beaten up if I am to say anything of that sort. But on my part as a fellow consumer I can enlighten people about the chemicals that are used and the problems that they might cause and the complications that may arise because of using them. It is a well known fact that the government has made it obligatory for all manufacturers of consumables to make sure that none of their products contain any kind of a toxic substance or anything that might cause discomfort to human beings. And now with testing on animals completely banned companies recruit test subjects or people who are willing to take up testing of these cosmetics on themselves. This was never the case with the age old beauty techniques of washing face frequently and exercising regularly. Exercising pumps more blood to the upper body, to the face especially and makes it look brighter. It also makes us sweat which cleans out the dirt and grime from the skin tissues. That reduces the use of "foundation" and "face peels". Similarly smoking or chewing tobacco is reputed to cause discoloration of the lips which can be avoided by avoiding smoking and chewing tobacco. People are all beautiful. That is how they were meant to be. It is our own laziness and practices which make us less beautiful and opt for cosmetics.
