I have a 12V DC washer motor - how can I get it to run on standard alkaline batteries? More inside...?
I tore a windshield washer motor out of a car, and I'm planning on using it to achieve a pretty specific task. Regardless, I work in a lab and at my bench I have a power source that provides a maximum of 2A draw at 12V of direct current - in that sense, it's kind of like a car battery.
However, when I attempt to give the washer motor 12V from conventional batteries - in this case an array of brand new AA batteries - I obviously can't get sufficient current draw, because the motor turns on, but does not pump, whereas the motor pumps with significant vigor from my bench source.
Do batteries have a maximum amperage they can provide? Let me rephrase, because I know they do: do you know what batteries I might obtain, apart from an actual car battery, that could provide 2A of current for me at 12V or really any voltage? Perhaps those lantern batteries? I really do need an alkaline battery solution to this problem.

Your Alkaline batteries should provide enough current for the washer motor to operate.
I'm not sure if your project has space restrictions but you may like to try using "C" cells to get your available current higher.
May I suggest the washer motor is old and worn and may well have worked perfectly when connected to a car battery which can provide hundreds of amps of current flow when required.
