DIARY OF A CHAV is yet the next in a line of teen novels by Grace Dent about Shiraz Bailey Wood. A "CHAV", for those who aren't familiar with the term, is used by the British as an insult for white working-class people who have taken to wearing fashions modeled after the hip-hop generation in America. Such things as fake designer clothing, hoodies, gold and gaudy jewelry, or "bling", is quite commonly found in the wardrobe or closet of a chav.
Shiraz, who is 16, does not like being called a chav especially since she can't help it in that her family isn't well off. Her parents both work but there isn't much money so things are hard for a teenager like Shiraz with all the peer pressure and such. Her high school is known as "Chav Central" and down deep Shiraz is just a good hearted girl who is having trouble finding her way in her formative years. She has dreams and wants more than the life her parents have and many of her friends at school are headed for. Her best friend is Carrie Draper at Mayflower Academy...AKA Chav Central, and Shiraz has an older sister named Cava-Sue.
The novel is written as a diary with entries that take Shiraz through a year of school and her summer break and back for the start of her 11th year. In her entries, she tells of all the trials and tribulations she deals with in what is a fairly typical teen angst type novel of life. The story includes all the typical teen experiences: the girlfriend fights, the boys, the who wears what, and all the important things in a teenager's life...all that is important to them at that time.
The book itself has some humorous parts to it and for the intended audience it is, I am sure, quite a bit of fun. However, I caution that this should be aimed at high school age students due to the language and some of the activities that Shiraz and her friends get into. As an adult, and middle school reading teacher, I believe I am fairly up on current issues and most of the popular language young teenagers use. I am with early teenager students daily and yet found this one was in the vernacular (language) that I didn't even want to try and understand at times. I found the book to be quite tedious to read and get through. The language is very British and perhaps the euphemisms were lost on me. Either way, I did not care for the book and it isn't one I would recommend. I do read many young adult novels and many are very good, funny, silly, deep, and geared for that age group. Yet, I still find them to be a good read. This book, however, was not. Hopefully, it will find an audience as I am sure there are "chavs" out there that will appreciate Ms. Dent's latest novel.

What You Need to Know Before Ordering Your Prefab Metal Airplane Hanger
Before ordering your new prefab metal airplane hanger, there are things you need to know, especially when it comes to the hanger fitting your plane properly. That is why the first thing you need to do is determine the size of your aircraft. If you do not have your plane yet and are wishing to order your metal airplane hanger first, you still need to know what the dimensions are in order to make sure the doorway is large enough for the plane to fit through. It is simply not enough that the building is big enough, because a door that is too small means you wouldn't be able to put the plane inside in the first place.
The plane
If you don't yet have your plane, there are five common models that individuals buy. Knowing these models can help you determine what you may possibly buy and what size hangar you need. Those models are:
- The Cessna 206 - There are several different variations of the 206. However, the 206 has six seats. The length of the wing span is 35ft. 10 in., the length is 28ft. 3in., and the height is 9ft 7in. It is good to note these measurements to ensure your hanger is going to be a good fit.
- The Cessna 182 Skylane - This is a very popular aircraft. It is also said that maintenance is not too bad. The measurement of the wing span is 36ft., the length is 25ft 2in., and the height is 9ft 2in.
- Piper Cherokee 180 - This plane is another popular model with a wing span of 30ft, a length of 23ft. 4in., and a height of 7ft. 4in. This makes this aircraft one of the smaller planes on the market.
- Beech 35 - The Beech has a wing span of 32ft. 10in., a length of 25ft. 2in., and a height of 7ft. 7in. This may vary based on the Beech 25 model you purchase, by only by about 1 foot in all dimensions.
- Piper PA-28 Cherokee Series - This series has a standard wing span of 35ft., a length of 23ft. 10in., and a height of 7ft. 4in.
These are some of the most common planes that you may find flying and you know that the owners have to park them somewhere. They had to get the measurements of their plane before they ever purchased a prefab metal airplane hanger to park it in.
Other things to think about
Also think about whether or not you're going to need storage inside of your airplane hanger. You also need some room to move around if you plan on performing any type of maintenance activities inside of the hangar. Usually these activities are carried out when the plane is outside of the hanger, but there are times that maintenance may need to be performed inside. As far as storage room, some may prefer to store their tools and other maintenance materials inside of the hanger. If there isn't sufficient room, then you may have to invest in some sort of storage building, which can be cost-effective in a sense. However, it may be more convenient and may possibly be cheaper if you can arrange a way to store items inside of the hanger.
Just take these things into consideration and you should be able to order the right size hanger with no problem at all. Most importantly, you'll be able to protect your precious giant-sized investment and anything that you decide to house with it. You'll also have that peace of mind that makes investing in a hanger totally priceless.

A cheap "Multi passenger" Beginner's aircraft?
I am planning on getting my License to be able to fly, all squared away and can be done, but i don't know where to go past that.
What i would like to do is get something that can hold somewhere like Four and six passengers plus luggage, it not be a total junker, and be done so comfortably. Just not a Cessna-piper-beech-craft $100,000 plus monster.
So, what would be a good one to look for? Hopefully less than A hundred grand, and relatively easy to fly. (If that's even possible to find >.>)
I have owned many aircraft over the past 25 years and am also a corporate pilot, flight instructor and mechanic. As a beginning pilot, you should probably not consider anything larger than four seats because of 1) high purchase cost 2) high insurance cost. Until you have more experience, it is usually wise to stick with something simple, so you should probably choose something with a fixed landing gear and fixed pitch propeller and an engine under 200 horsepower - all for reasons of cost and insurance. A Cessna 172 Skyhawk or Piper Cherokee are obvious choices and make excellent starter aircraft that are relatively inexpensive to maintain and fly. Decent older ones can be had for well under $50,000. Depending what area of the country you will be flying in, they are really only good for carrying 2 or 3 people (including pilot) plus luggage, because performance and load carrying ability both decrease with an increase in temperature and elevation. .
If you want to carry 4 people (including yourself) and a decent amount of luggage without having to reduce the fuel you can carry, then at minimum you'll probably need something like a Cessna 182 or Piper Archer. They still have fixed gear, but more horsepower, although you may still be limited to flying with less people / luggage in certain areas of the country where high temperatures and elevations are the norm. These aircraft are also quite a bit more expensive to buy and a bit more expensive to insure and operate.
If you want something with real 4 (or more) passenger capability, that has the speed, comfort, and performance you are expecting, plus the ability to operate out of higher elevation fields in the summertime when fully loaded, then you are generally talking about aircraft beyond your $100k budget.
Do a lot of research. Learn the capabilities and limitations of the aircraft that fall within your budget. Have fun looking and good luck.
Wild Britain: Week 1. The Best of the Wildlife Trust's sites
You might be excused – if all you read of wildlife was the news pages of daily papers – for thinking that every species is threatened, every habitat being spoiled, and we are managing to convey our flora and fauna to hell in the swiftest of handcarts. The conservation groups – who otherwise do much good – also do a brisk trade with journalism's perpetual pessimists by producing a succession of ...
