Some 40% of employers now use some form of career aptitude test as part of their employee selection process and this number appears to be rising.
This is because employers recognise that choosing candidates on the basis of a job interview only is very subjective. They know that it's not always the most suitable candidate who performs best in the interview and making a recruitment decision based on 45 minutes is not ideal.

Basic questions in testing web application?
I know this is a very basic question but still I don’t know. I developed a web application and its working fine. Till now I didn’t used any testing tools. I used to test my application manually. I really don’t know how the system will behave if more concurrent users are connected to the system and I also don’t know whether my application is meeting all the standards like performance, CPU utilization etc. These are the following concerns I have.
1) What are the testing tools I can use to test my application?
2) What are main parameters under which I have to test my application?
3) How I will come to know whether report generated by the tool is meeting all the standards. Is there any standard (values) where I can compare my testing report?
4) How to find out the minimum and maximum hardware configuration required for running my application?
Any help would be appreciated.
There are LOTS of web testing tools out there. One Java-based one that I use is called JMeter (http://jakarta.apache.org/site/news/news-2006-q2.html#20060613.1 ). It simulates multiple users hitting your application multiple times. It also has a built in proxy server for recording test scripts. It's part of the Jakarta project from Apache Software Foundation. There are also a lot of commercial software test products out there, but I have yet to use any of them. I stick with the free ones. They may be rough around the edges, but they get the job done.
As far as minimum and maximum hardware requirements, that's a bit trickier. It basically comes down to knowing your application and how it's used. Using automated testing tools, you can get a good idea of the memory footprint of your application if you run through all the possible functions of your app and then take a look at the total memory being used by the app (JMeter doesn't provide this, you'd have to find language specific tools for this). This will give you a good sense for how much memory you app utilizes. These profiling tools can also give you a sense for whether your app is CPU bound, disk bound or neither/both. That way you can determine where to spend the money for hardware.
When it comes down to it, get the most machine you can afford.
